Station Masters & Transport Ministry talks unsuccessful

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Discussions between the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Station Masters have ended in a stalemate.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association Sumedha Somaratne said the executive committee will convene this evening to reach a decision pertaining to launching an indefinite strike action.

Somaratne said the Railways General Manager failed to provide a positive response to their demands and charged that he didn’t provide an opportunity for them to table facts either.

He added suspicions arose of attempts to inconvenience the government and the public, together with railway drivers and regulators.

The strike, which was scheduled to begin at midnight yesterday, was postponed as a result of discussions with authorities.

However, trade union action of suspending the issuance of train tickets and refraining from accepting and transporting parcels will continue.
