Gas leak explosions report to be submitted to the President today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The committee appointed to look into recent gas cylinder fires and explosions at homes, stores and other trade outlets says its final report will be submitted to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.

Chairman of the committee Prof. Shantha Walpola of the University of Moratuwa when contacted by NewsRadio said the report has been completed.

Prof. Walpola said the report was prepared after a thorough and stringent investigation into accidents including gas leak explosions reported during the past few days.

He expressed hope that the President will take necessary action in future based on the findings of the report.

The President appointed an eight-member committee to look into the recent gas cylinder fires and explosions at homes, stores and other trade outlets in various parts of the country and to determine the cause and recommend possible solutions.

The committee comprises of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, Prof. Ajith de Silva of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. WDW Jayathilaka of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Pradeep Jayaweera, Commissioner of Sri Lanka Inventors Commission Prof. Narayana Sirimuthu, Additional Director General of Industrial Technology Institute Dr. Sudarshana Somasiri and Senior Deputy Director (Technical) at Sri Lanka Standard Institute Sujeewa Mahagama.
