Prices of all flour-based products increased

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Bakery owners have increased all flour-based products with effect from midnight yesterday (28), a spokesman for their Association said.

The move follows after a steady increase of flour prices marking the highest rise in the recent years. A kilogram of flour has gone up by Rs 17.00.

Accordingly the Bakery Owners’ Association has told its members to increase a 450g loaf of bread by Rs. 10 while short-eats have gone up by Rs five per item.

President of the Bakery Owners’ Association N.K. Jayawardena said that further increase may be necessary as prices of other items used in the production too have been rising.

Among the worst affected by the flour price increases were the population in the estate sectors where they depend on flour-based products including ‘rotty’.

Meanwhile spokesman for the Canteen Owners’ Association Asela Sampath said that they will be forced to increase prices with the recent flour price increase and gas price revision.

He said the Kottu prices too will be increased from today (29).
