Public must help prevent future wave of Covid-19

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Health services have requested the public to take steps to prevent the emergence of an uncontrollable wave of coronavirus.

Speaking to media at the Health Promotion Bureau, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said the public must also take steps to minimise the magnitude of a wave that cannot be prevented.

Dr. Herath said new COVID-19 waves have emerged from all countries including developed nations.

He noted it has been observed that the number of coronavirus infections increase when socioeconomic activities of a country begin to return to normalcy, following a decrease in COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Herath said it is important to identify such instances ahead and take necessary measures.

He added it is important to delay the emergence of a wave for as long as possible.
