Rail services returned in full swing

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Railways says train operations have returned to normalcy with the easing of travel restrictions with commuters travelling in numbers as before.

Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundera said interprovincial trains and long-distance trains are being scheduled at present with the Kankesanthurai, Jaffna to Colombo express train also scheduled to begin operating.

He claimed the present situation is being monitored to determine hours with the most number of commuters, in order to control the situation.

He said several additional train journeys will be added to operations from Monday.

Jayasundera added that railway authorities will accordingly determine if capacities should be increased or if additional trains will be deployed to ease the congestion.
