“New World” Loses 500,000 Players

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Amazon’s high-profile MMORPG “New World” had reportedly lost over 500,000 players in a single month – more than half its player base at present.

According to Steam Charts (via Forbes, the title launched on September 28th to 650,000 concurrent players before rising to a total of 913,027 simultaneous players on October 3rd. It has since consistently dropped about 135,000 per week and is now, a month later, down to a peak of around 400,000 over the weekend.

That’s still a high number, but it does put the pressure on the streamer to include new and fresh content. With MMO games, it is vital the community remains active and engaged.

Amazon has also been dealing with some bugs ranging from broken perks to an allegedly easily abused banning system, gold not being received, and the ability to crash the game via its chat box.

The game scored good reviews and was praised for its ‘buy-to-play business model’ with a single-time purchase instead of a monthly subscription (though there are in-game microtransactions).
