New COVID health guidelines issued

(UTV | COLOMBO) – 25 health guidelines have been issued that will be effective as of the 1st of November.

The guidelines were issued by the Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardana.

Accordingly, schools will be allowed to resume Ordinary and Advanced Level classes with dates due to be determined by the Ministry of Education.

Tuition classes can also commence at a 50% capacity from the 16th of November only for O/Level and A/Level students.

Daycares can open while preschools will continue to operate at a 50% capacity.

Higher education centres including universities can function according to specific guidelines while vocational training institutions can operate at a 50% capacity.

The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel out of homes while virtual meetings continue to be encouraged with a maximum of 1/3 of the usual capacity allowed in halls, not exceeding 150 persons.

Meanwhile, only 10 individuals will be allowed in a private house with a maximum capacity of 1/3 of the room.

Economic centres, day fares, open markets and mobile vendors will be allowed to open for wholesale business under strict supervision.

Shops, groceries, pharmacies and supermarkets can also accommodate at a 1/3 capacity while financial institutions will be allowed to open with a maximum of 15 persons allowed in at a time.

Meanwhile exhibitions and conventions can commence from the 1st of December with adequate precautions taken.
