Grade 5 Schol and A/L exams may be postponed to 2022

(UTV | COLOMBO) – State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Learning Promotion Susil Premajayantha says the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and the GCE Advanced Level Examination may have to be postponed to the beginning of next year.

Responding to a question raised by Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa under Standing Orders, Minister Premajayantha said the two exams were earlier scheduled to be held in November.

The Minister however said, due to the inability to complete the syllabi, a number of parties requested for further postponement of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and the A/Level Examination.

The Minister informed Parliament that the final decision pertaining to the dates of the examinations will be announced in future after further discussions between officials of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Examinations.

He said schools are scheduled to re-open under four phases according to health guidelines.

Minister Premajayantha said the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination was due to be held on the 14th of November while the A/Level Examination was due to commence on the 15th of November.

The Minister said exams had to be rescheduled due to schools being closed for a longer duration than expected.
