Health unions to launch trade union action tomorrow

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Health trade unions have decided to launch trade union action once again and withdraw from services tomorrow, as the government has reached a decision to suspend the COVID allowance which was obtained after many struggles.

President of the Government Nursing Officers’ Association Saman Rathnapriya said health unions struggled to win the COVID relief allowance adding however the government decided to suspend it.

He said therefore it will not be paid in October. He noted COVID-19 has not been mitigated and the government must continue COVID relief efforts.

Rathnapriya added protest campaigns and strikes will be launched throughout the day tomorrow.

He said health workers will withdraw from services island wide at hospitals and health facilities from 7am to noon, and launch a protest campaign across the country from 12-12.30pm.
