(UTV | COLOMBO) – The government is said to be planning to hold the Provincial Council elections in the first half of 2022, postponing the Local Government polls which were to be held at that time.
This decision to push back LG polls is said to be taken with the hope that the prevalent public dissatisfaction of the government will dissipate by then.
A lesser number of votes are cast at a PC election than at a LG election and this too, is said to be another reason.
Meanwhile, media reports have cited that the PM Mahinda Rajapaksa’s youngest son – Rohitha Rajapaksa (Chichi) is to be fielded as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Wayamba Province under the ticket of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Dayasiri Jayasekera has already made a public statement that he is ready to resign not only from his ministerial portfolio but also from his parliamentary seat to contest for the post of Wayamba Chief Minister, if the party requests so.
