Import of organic fertiliser from China firm suspended

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Agriculture has decided against importing organic nitrogen fertiliser for the Maha season from a Chinese company.

Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage said laboratory tests conducted on the fertiliser samples that were sent by the company, found bacteria that is harmful to soil.

The Minister said therefore a decision was reached to suspend the imports.

He said the government will ensure that farmers have sufficient fertiliser for the Maha season without any shortage.
