Over 50,000 quarantine law violators arrested

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The total number of persons arrested for violating quarantine regulations in the country, has exceeded 50,000.

Police said 190 persons were arrested on the relevant charges yesterday.

Accordingly 50,027 persons have been arrested for violating quarantine regulations since the 30th of October last year.

Cases have been filed against 43,000 of the arrested individuals while cases are due to be filed against 7,000 more persons.

Police further said 928 persons travelling in 413 vehicles were issued warnings and sent back, after attempting to enter or exit the Western Province, in violation of travel restrictions.

Police urged the public to follow health guidelines issued by the Director General of Health Services on the 10th of July.
