Teachers’ online strike continues for third day

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The trade union action launched by the teachers belonging to 14 teachers ‘unions including the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union to withdraw from all online activities is still active for the third day today. Due to trade union action, the students who were planning to sit for the GCE Advanced Level and Scholarship examinations have been inconvenienced as well.

However, there have been reports in some areas that some teachers have been teaching online.

The Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin and a group of others were arrested on 08 July for violating the quarantine laws during the protest held against the Kotelawala Defence University Bill.

The teachers’ union decided to withdraw from online education or online teaching on 12 July in protest of the incident and demanded solutions to several other issues.
