(UTV | COLOMBO) – Rob Zombie has confirmed his long in the works film reboot of “The Munsters” is finally happening.
The musician turned director of the likes of “The Devil’s Rejects” and the 2007 “Halloween” remake announced on his Instagram page Monday that the film is going forward via Universal Pictures’ 1440 Productions division.
This very likely means the movie is a straight to Peacock effort as opposed to a theatrical release. Zombie’s post says:
“Attention Boils and Ghouls!. The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!”
The 1964 sitcom followed a family of friendly monsters who relocated from Transylvania to an American suburb. Both it and “The Addams Family” remain pop culture icons, though “The Munsters” never made the leap to film before.
The series was rebooted as a failed pilot turned Halloween special for NBC in 2012. “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller handled that project titled “Mockingbird Lane” which starred Eddie Izzard, Jerry O’Connell and Portia de Rossi.
