Rishad request CID to expedite probe into complaint against Weerawansa [VIDEO]

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen today (14) requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to expedite investigation into the complaint lodged by him against the public statement made by Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

The Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) on Wednesday (10) filed a complaint with the CID against the statement where Weerawansa claimed that both former Minister Bathiudeen and his brother had been in touch with Zahran Hashim, who believed to have masterminded the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to media after filing his complaint with the CID, the ACMC Leader strongly denied the allegations made against him as being politically motivated.

Former Minister Bathiudeen challenged Weerawansa to prove the allegations raised against himself and his brother, and emphasised that he trust the CID will immediately commence investigations into his complaint.

He further called on the CID to initiate legal action against Weerawansa following the completion of the investigation.

Former Minister Bathiudeen today in a Twitter message said he hope the CID will expedient action against Weerawansa for his malicious allegations against him in a similar way the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of CID took swift and expedient action to record a statement from the Parliamentarian Ashok Abeysinghe for allegations against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The CID had recorded a statement from Abeysinghe for nearly 5-hours on Thursday (11), over the public comments on the perpetrators of the Easter attacks as well as the funding sources for the attacks.
