Premier instructs to provide kerosene subsidy to the beneficiaries without any misuse

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed as per the Cabinet Memorandum dated 05 February 2021, on the Reimbursement of Kerosene Subsidy and the Restructuring of Ports and Airports Development Tax on Crude Oil met for the first time yesterday (08) at the Ministry of Finance under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Prime Minister instructed the relevant Officials to look into the possibility of extending the kerosene subsidy directly to the target beneficiaries including farmers and fishermen and to formulate a mechanism in this regard.

The Prime Minister also instructed State Minister of Money and Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal to discuss with the State Banks and the Central Bank the possibility of obtaining loans from the State Banks in Rupees instead of Dollars.

Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma, Douglas Devananda, Prasanna Ranatunga, Udaya Gammanpila, State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance S. R. Attygalle, Secretaries to Ministries and Government Officials were also present on the occasion.
