Ruby Rose joins E-Sports comedy “1Up”

Ruby Rose has joined Paris Berelc in the underdog comedy “1Up,” currently in production in Toronto, at Lionsgate and Buzzfeed.

Former “Batwoman” star Rose replaces Elliot Page who has had to drop out of the film which Kyle Newman is directing. Taylor Zakhar Perez, Hari Nef and Nicholas Coombe have also just been cast.

The story centers on a young woman named Valerie Lee (Berelc), who quits her college e-sports team, fed up with gaslighting from her male counterparts. She soon realizes her decision comes at the cost of her scholarship.

However, there’s a loophole she can exploit if she can find a coach and assemble a whole new varsity-calibre team capable of reaching the State Finals. Teaming with her professor (Rose) and best friend, they form and train a rag-tag women’s team committed to taking down the boys that tried to shut them out of gaming.

Julia Yorks penned the script while Richard Alan Reid is producing along with Michael Philip and Jason Moring.
