Kenneth Branagh to play Boris Johnson

Kenneth Branagh will play U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the new five-part Sky TV series “This Sceptred Isle” about the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Trip” film series director Michael Winterbottom penned and directs the project which will chart the events surrounding Johnson and his government in the face of the first wave of the global pandemic.

The series is based on the first-hand testimony from members of the government, the Department of Health, the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, and hospitals and care homes across the country.

In late March Johnson was hospitalized with COVID-19 for over a week, with a number of days spent in intensive care. The UK is presently in its third national lockdown.

Fremantle, Passenger and Revolution Films are backing the series which will arrive on Sky in Fall 2022.
