UN support for Sri Lanka to procure COVID-19 vaccines

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The United Nations (UN) has assured Sri Lanka its support in procuring, distributing and administering of the vaccine against COVID-19.

This pledge was made yesterday (22) during a meeting between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a UN delegation comprising of UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative Tim Sutton, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative Dr. Razia Pendse, a release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

The UN delegation and Sri Lankan Officials agreed that vaccination at such a mass scale will require a whole-of-Government approach to ensure Sri Lanka’s preparedness for the delivery and administering of the vaccine once it arrives.
