Don’t auction service dogs – Defence Secretary

Defence Ministry Secretary Major General (retd) Kamal Gunaratne has directed acting IGP C.D. Wickremaratne not to auction police dogs under any circumstances. He has said that a mechanism should be developed by the relevant organizations to look after these animals considering the services rendered by them in busting the drug menace.

He also said that these dogs have provided immense service to the security agencies to detect explosives and their services should be recognized by looking after them.
