New Cabinet Ministers to be sworn in today

UTV | COLOMBO – The new Cabinet of Ministers of the newly elected government will be sworn in today.

The swearing in ceremony of the new Cabinet will take place at 8:30 this morning at the Magul Maduwa or the Audience Hall in Kandy.

The President’s Media Division said the Cabinet will comprise 28 members while 40 State Ministers will also be appointed.

An Extraordinary Gazette was issued detailing the composition, duties and functions and existing laws and regulations and acts of the Ministries.

The Cabinet Ministries include Defence, Finance, Buddhist and Cultural Affairs, Urban Development, Justice, Foreign, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Education, Health, Labour, Environment and Wildlife Resources.

The Ministries also include Agriculture, Irrigation, Land, Fisheries, Plantation, Water Management, Power and Energy, Ports and Shipping, Highways, Transport, Youth Affairs and Sports, Tourism, Trade, Industries and Mass Media.

The President’s Media Division said national priorities, policy responsibilities and tasks were taken into consideration while State Ministries have been prepared in order to ensure the tasks of all Ministries are completed and to enforce programmes of Ministries.

The PMD added that Ministry compositions were determined based on national security, economic development, infrastructure, education, health and sports.
