Democratic activists are being suppressed -NPP

UTV | COLOMBO – The National People’s Power says a dangerous precedence is being set in suppressing democratic activists.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy senior attorney Lal Wijenayake said a group of individuals and himself were arrested illegally recently.

Wijenayake said they faced this ordeal in Yatiyantota while engaged in political activities.

He noted however that no action was taken against the demolition of the 13th century King’s Court building in Kurunegala, quarantine laws being violated at late Minister Arumugan Thondaman’s funeral and the statement made by Karuna Amman claiming he killed 3,000 soldiers in one night.

He noted while crimes are committed at a large scale, those responsible are protected, and those exercising their democratic rights are being suppressed.
