COVID-19: Compensation for next-of-kin of Lankan expatriates

UTV | COLOMBO – The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has decided to compensate the next-of-kin of Lankan expatriates who succumbed to coronavirus while overseas.

Chairman of the Bureau Kamal Ratwatte said documentation for 20 Lankans have already been compiled.

The Chairman noted that Rs.40,000 will be paid for funeral preparations of the deceased, while a compensation fee of Rs.500,000 will also be granted.

However the compensation fee will only be provided to the next-of-kin of expatriates who were registered with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

Meanwhile Lankans who overstayed visas, and passed away in respective countries of employment, will be granted a sum of Rs.300,000.

The Bureau has also decided to award Rs.600,000 to the next-of-kin of persons who left for overseas employment after the 16th of March and passed away having contracted the coronavirus.
