Printing of driving licenses to be handed over to Army

UTV | COLOMBO – The printing of driving licenses, which was done by a private company previously is to be handed over to Sri Lanka Army from next year onwards, the Government said.

A discussion regarding the matter was held with the participation of Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Defence Ministry Secretary Kamal Gunaratne, Army Commander Shavendra Silva and Secretary to the Transport Ministry Secretary  Gamini Senevirathna.

It has been discussed at the meeting that the Government has to pay an exorbitant amount to the private company to get the digital driving license cards printed.

According to an audit report, a sum of Rs. 7,467.65 million had been paid to the company for the period from 2009 to 2017.
