UTV | COLOMBO – The five-member committee appointed to probe concerns surrounding payment of electricity bills for the months of March, April and May and submit recommendations to provide concessions for the public, is due to submit the final report to the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy today.
Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera appointed the committee on the 2nd of July after taking into consideration complaints submitted by consumers stating that electricity bills had skyrocketed due to the imposition of curfew during the relevant months, to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the island.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued directives to Minister Amaraweera to take steps to grant concessions to consumers, when the Cabinet of Ministers convened last week.
The report compiled by the five-member committee headed by Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy Hemantha Samarakoon, is due to be handed over to Minister Amaraweera tomorrow.
The Ministry said the Minister Mahinda Amaraweera will present the report to the Cabinet of Ministers when it convenes on Wednesday.
