Over 1,100 mobile phones recovered during raids at prisons

UTV | COLOMBO – More than 1,100 mobiles phones and over 100 grams of heroin had been seized during the raids carried out at 28 prisons during the last four weeks, the Prisons Department said.

Accordingly, the search operations were carried out at island-wide prisons including at the Colombo Remand Prison, Magazine Prison, Welikada, Boossa, Negombo, Galle and Dumbara prisons.

A total of 1,102 mobile phones, 688 SIM cards, 1,310 mobile phone batteries and 77 hand-free sets were recovered.

A total of 277 mobile phones and 132 SIM cards were recovered from inside the Negombo Prison while 203 mobile phones recovered from the Colombo Remand Prison and 199 mobile phones were recovered from Welikada prison.
