Port employees launch work-to-rule campaign

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Employees at the Jaya and Samagi container terminals at the Colombo Port have launched a work-to-rule campaign.

The protest has been attributed to the failure to offload three gantry cranes from a ship docked at the Colombo Port.

Meanwhile the protest launched by three employees of the Colombo Port, who climbed on top of a gantry crane, demanding the new cranes that were brought for the Colombo East Terminal be installed promptly, also continues.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, the Co-Convenor of the All-Ceylon Port General Workers’ Union Prasanna Kalutarage said the work-to-rule campaign was launched in support of the protest launched by the three employees.

He said all employees at the two terminals have joined the trade union action.

Kalutarage stressed that although offloading and other activity at the port will not be suspended entirely owing to the union action, delays are however inevitable.
