ITSSL reveals scheme to collect private data

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka says a scheme of private data collection is underway under the guise of conducting surveys for the General Election via social media.

The Society said data is being gathered under the guise of requests to join groups and partaking in surveys for the election.

The ITSSL requested the public to remain vigilant of such schemes operating via social media.

The Society requested the public to inquire into the purpose behind the requirement of personal information for surveys when approached.

The Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka noted that such schemes operated during the 2019 Presidential Election as well and expressed its disappointment in the failure of authorities to take action against such operations.
