Cinemas to reopen after three month closure

(UTV |COLOMBO) – Cinemas that were closed for three months, will reopen today.

Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Bandula Harischandra said cinemas have been granted approval to reopen under strict healthcare and safety guidelines.

All cinemas were subject to disinfection prior to opening.

The Ministry Secretary said healthcare guidelines issued by Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe must be followed by all cinema patrons.

Cinemas across the island were closed on the 14th of March, as a mitigation measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the island.

Accordingly cinemas remained closed for over three months, while around 100 backlogged movies are yet to be screened.
