Five arrested for demanding ransom from traders

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Police have arrested five suspects on charges of demanding ransoms from traders in the vicinity of the Manning Market.

The raid was carried out yesterday by officers attached to the Colombo Crimes Division, based on information that revealed the suspects had been demanding ransoms from vegetable traders who arrived at the market for a lengthy period of time.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Grandpass, Wellampitiya and Kahawatte.

The suspects will be produced before the Hultsdorf Magistrate’s Court today.
