‘I have no evidence to support fixing claims’

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Sports Dullas Alahapperuma says he has no evidence to support claims that attempts were made to fix the 2011 Cricket World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka.

The Sports Minister said the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports and Sri Lanka Cricket are also not in possession of any evidence to support fixing claims.

He added when inquired by the International Cricket Council, they too have not launched an investigation into fixing claims.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Minister Alahapperuma said he is not prepared to point fingers or imply that an individual attempted to change the outcome of the World Cup final.

He said the then Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage has raised the matter and accordingly as the incumbent Sports Minister he has a responsibility to conduct an investigation into the claim.

He said the Sport Anti-Corruption Unit based in Sri Lanka has been instructed to inquire probe the claim.
