CID to probe Karuna Amman’s controversial comments

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to immediately conduct an investigation pertaining to a recent statement made by Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan also known as ‘Karuna Amman.’

Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Jaliya Senaratne said the directive was issued by Acting IGP CD Wickramaratne over the purported statement made by the Former LTTE combatant in relation to assassinating several Army personnel during the war.

Karuna Amman was a senior leader of the LTTE and recently during a meeting in Ampara made a controversial statement regarding the assassination of more than 2,000 Army personnel during the height of the war.

Following the statement, several political and civil society groups had called for an inquiry against Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan.

He has also filed nominations to contest at the upcoming Parliamentary Election.
