(UTV | COLOMBO) – Men and women turned up in large numbers to donate blood in a campaign organized by All-Ceylon YMMA Conference at its headquarters in Dematagoda on Sunday.
The program was held in coordination with the Young Women’s Muslim Association,YWMA, and the Central YMMA to supply blood to the Covid-19 patients who are spread out in various hospitals.
Among those present included, Acting National President of the All-Ceylon YMMA Conference Saheed M Rismy, YWMA President Fawaza Thaha, Central YMMA President M.N,M.Kamil, OIC Dematagoda Police Station, Shantha Jayasinghe ,PHI Abdul Rahman, ACJU representative Nuzrath Nowfer and a representative from the Buddhist clergy, Reverend Saman Istraliya Thero.
Rasmy said that the program is being arranged on a request made by the Colombo Blood Bank which said that there is a demand for blood due to increasing number of patients to the government hospitals due to the Covid crisis.
“ Since the response from the donors is encouraging, we hope to collect more than 100 pints of blood at the end of the campaign,”Rismy said, pointing out that that the campaign was opened to people from all faiths and people from all walks of life responded to the call spontaneously.
YWMA President Fawaza Thaha said there was a large turn out from the women folks who came to participate in this noble cause.
Former YMMA President Khalid Farook also participated at the event.
