Several Navy personnel removed from Welisara Base

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Several Navy personnel held at the Welisara Navy Base have been removed from the camp after testing negative for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said PCR tests were conducted for a period of three days on all Navy personnel held at the base.

Director of the Unit Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said they are hopeful that the camp can be declared a ‘coronavirus-free zone’ in the near future.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera noted that only a limited number of Navy personnel are carrying out duties within the camp at present. He said further tests will be conducted on the Navy personnel held at the camp on the 18th of June.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said following the test results, further action will be taken pertaining to the Navy camp in Welisara.
