Murder suspect dies in shootout

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A murder suspect died during a shootout with the police at Iththakatuwa in Monaragala today, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said.

He said a group of police officers attempted to arrest the suspect who was wanted over a murder of a 50-year old man on May 31 in Monaragala.

The 31-year-old suspect has opened fire at the police in an attempt to evade the arrest and was injured when the police returned fire at him.

The injured suspect died after being admitted to the Monaragala Hospital.

Police recovered a shotgun, a hand grenade and a knife in possession of the suspect.
