Normalcy hasn’t returned in the country-Vijitha

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The JVP says the country has not returned to normalcy from the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo former Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said it is apparent with the imposition of curfew daily.

He stated island-wide curfew has been imposed tomorrow and the day after, while tomorrow has also been declared a public sector holiday, adding that curfew is also imposed between 10pm and 4am daily.

The former MP stressed if normalcy has returned in the country, a need would not arise to impose curfew.

The former Parliamentarian also said Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe has not issued guidelines pertaining to the conduct of the General Election thus far.

He added Dr. Jasinghe has issued health guidelines for the public, including wearing face masks, washing hands, avoiding congested areas and maintaining social distancing.

Former MP Herath noted although the Election Commission requested health officials to issue guidelines pertaining to the manner in which an election should be conducted, the matter was also brought up in Court.

Vijitha Herath said the Director General of Health Services had said the guidelines will be issued to the Election Commission within the day.
