(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Election Commission will convene today to discuss the upcoming General Election.
The talks will be attended by members Mahinda Deshapriya, NJ Abeysekara and Prof. Rathnajeevan Hoole at the Election Commission this morning.
Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said a date to hold the election will not be determined today as health guidelines have not been received pertaining to the conduct of the General Election.
Deshapriya said the Gazette Notification pertaining to the issuance of preferential numbers will be issued promptly as the verdict on the Fundamental Rights petitions against the gazette pertaining to the conduct of the General Election on the 20th of June was issued yesterday.
The Chairman of Elections said the health guidelines pertaining to the conduct of the election is due to be handed over by health authorities over the weekend.
He also pointed out the need to hold talks with District Deputy and Assistant Election Commissioners prior to determining a date for the election.
Mahinda Deshapriya added the Election Commission will also hold talks with political party Secretaries pertaining to the General Election.
