Confirmed COVID-19 cases increase to 1,633

(UTV | COLOMBO) -The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the country has increased to 1,633.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 13 new cases were detected yesterday.

According to the Health Ministry, nine foreign returnees and four Navy personnel were among those confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus in the country.

Seven persons who arrived from Russia and two individuals who returned from Bangladesh tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

Accordingly, 822 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medical treatment at nine hospitals across the country.

801 persons who contracted the novel coronavirus have also recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Among the COVID-19 cases are 762 Navy personnel of whom 403 have recovered.

521 foreign returnees are among the coronavirus cases in the country.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 74 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.

10 deaths in the country have also been linked to COVID-19.
