Talks to take place on reopening schools

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Education says a special discussion will be held today with several factions including the Ministry of Health, pertaining to reopening schools.

The Ministry noted the main objective of the meeting is to formulate a plan to reopen schools.

The Education Ministry took steps to close all schools across the island on the 13th of March due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It was then decided to reopen schools on the 11th of May.

However, a final decision on the date to reopen schools has not been reached thus far.

The Education Ministry said initial plans to reopen schools are being formulated based on guidelines issued by health authorities.

The initial plan at present is to recommence academic activities in schools for students sitting the 2020 GCE Advanced Level examination, under the first phase.
