(UTV | Colombo) – “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” writer/director Matt Reeves is the one taking on the newest screen incarnation of “Batman” with the Robert Pattinson-led film which is currently on hiatus due to the global pandemic.
However, another person who wants a shot at the character appears to be “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto who has posted his own rather wild pitch for an adaptation of the DC Comics property on Instagram.
Pizzolatto labels Batman “the only piece of geek culture I have any affinity for”. He say he has problems with Batman’s rule of no killing which he says isn’t the “makes me as bad as them” reason which he dubs “kindergarten bulls–t “. Rather he says it exists because Batman’s “real and eternal enemy is death”.
He says his least favorite version of the character is the tortured soul who can’t get over his parents’ death, saying: “Batman is the story of how one human Saint turned a life-defining tragedy into the pinnacle of human achievement and the single greatest humanitarian crusade the world has ever known.”
He goes on to say Bruce Wayne’s wealth doesn’t matter as: “it actually adds to his heroism: his wealth means he could have done literally ANYTHING else than what he devotes his life to” rather than what he’s doing – executing vigilante justice on mentally unstable criminals with a flair for dramatic outfits & gimmicks.
Pizzolatto closes out saying Batman could “credibly defeat God” while adding that Lex Luthor would pose a greater threat rather than the ‘frail, twiggy man’ that is The Joker.
