‘Kotmale Dam to be raised for more capacity’

(UTV|COLOMBO) – State Minister of Mahaweli Development Roshan Ranasinghe says the Kotmale Dam will be raised twofold to manage rain water.

Speaking to media to mark the completion of 50 years for the Mahaweli Project, the State Minister said proposals have been tabled to increase the capacity of several other reservoirs that fall under the Mahaweli Project.

The State Minister noted that while showers aren’t experienced throughout the year, rainwater during monsoon periods must be preserved for a drought.

He noted that engineers of the Mahaweli Project have proposed raising the Kotmale Dam from 15 meters to 30 meters more to retain more water.
