Premier meets Indian President

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on a 4 day official visit to India, called on the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday (08).

Welcoming Premier Rajapaksa to India, the Indian President said that India firmly believes that its growth is linked to peace and prosperity in its neighbourhood and a stable and prosperous Sri Lanka is in the best interests of India.

President Kovind said that India has always been keen to strengthen the economic pillar of India-Sri Lanka bilateral relations, stating much can be achieved for mutual growth and prosperity.

President Kovind also strongly condemned the Easter terror attacks in Sri Lanka in April last year, with both leaders expressing commitment to continue their resolve to fight and defeat terrorism.

The Prime Minister’s Media Unit stated discussions also focused on further strengthening political, security, trade and cultural relations between the two nations.
