Goods were seized from Ranjan’s house illegally – says Hirunika

(UTV|COLOMBO) – United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra says the Police must respond to how the Court Produce seized from Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake’s residence have fallen in to the hands of politicians, civil organisations and certain media institutions.

Speaking at a media briefing at the United National Party headquarters Sirikotha last evening, the MP charged that the Court Produce seized at the MPs residence was carried out illegally by the Police.

She said what is hilarious is that CDs obtained from the residence of MP Ranjan Ramanayake and is being held at the Magistrate Court, were released to politicians and media outlets within 4 to 5 hours.

MP Premachandra said the Police must explain how this fell into the hands of these groups.

She reiterated that the Police must explain how the court produce was made public.

The Parliamentarian also noted that a search warrant was issued under Article 68 which only permits a search, and questioned how goods were seized from the MPs residence, which is only permitted under Article 70.
