“Govt. not concerned over national security” – MP Range Bandara

(UTV|COLOMBO) – United National Party  (UNP) Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara says the government that claims it stands for national security is today working towards abolishing the Counter Terrorism Act.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the island, MP Bandara said the government and state officials will face many difficulties when legal grounds pertaining to terrorism are abolished.

The Parliamentarian said the United National Party government called for the enforcement of the Act owing to signs of resurgence of terrorist organizations both locally and internationally.

He claimed that the former government took steps to mitigate risks with the support of the international community.

MP Palitha Range Bandara said in the event of an attack on the country the government will be held responsible if the Counter Terrorism Act is withdrawn.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing said the Cabinet of Ministers consented to withdrawing the Counter Terrorism Act.
