Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne retires

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne officially retires from service today.

The Chief of Defence Staff has served in the defence forces for nearly 39 years.

Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne holds the distinction of being the longest serving and most senior officer in the military.

Ravindra Wijegunaratne was promoted to the rank of Admiral and appointed the Chief of Defence Staff on the 22nd of August 2017.

His term was later extended till the 31st of December 2019 with effect from the 22nd of August 2019.
