Illegal Sri Lankan immigrants from India held by Navy

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy had received information about a boat which had embarked to the Delft Island, with a group of Sri Lankan asylum seekers from India and Navy carried out a thorough operation for past few days regarding this matter.

As a result of search operation conducted in Thalaimannar area 05 immigrants who had hidden there were taken into Naval custody.

These persons who had immigrated to the Delft island through the sea routes, had later come to Talaimannar area. Out of five persons, 01 woman and 03 men stayed at a house in Thalaimannar area and they were apprehended. By further inquiry of them, it was revealed that a male person was hiding in Jaffna area and he was also nabbed.

Although this group were Sri Lankans they were apprehended since they had immigrated illegally through sea routes.

Apprehended males are residents of Thalaimannar, Pesale and Jaffna areas aged 33, 36 and 45.The woman is a 63 years old resident of Ingiriya area.

Further investigation on these suspects are conducted by Talaimannar Police.
