Railways Dept. obtains services of 20 retired railway employees

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Railways Department has taken measures to obtain the services of 20 retired railway workers to continue operations of rail services in the backdrop of an indefinite strike by rail employees.

Among the retired employees who had engaged in services today (Sept 30) were transport inspectors, 14 rail drivers and three station masters.

Meanwhile, the Railways Department said that 11 trains are in operation despite the ongoing strike which entered its fifth day today.

The Transport Ministry, in June, recruited retired train engine drivers, train controllers, station masters, rail signal inspectors, and rail track inspectors to be deployed during strikes.
