“10,000 observers on duty for Presidential Election” – Rohana Hettiarachchi

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Election monitoring body the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election says around 10,000 observers will be on duty for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi speaking to a prominent online news portal said several complaints have been lodged pertaining to the flouting of election laws.

He said long and short term observers, training of observers in district level and those related to other areas of importance will be involved in the process.

Hettiarachchi noted the highest number of complaints lodged were related to appointments in the state sector.

PAFFREL called on candidates and political parties to respect the rules and regulations in place when an election has been called.
