Afternoon thundershowers to lash Sri Lanka; Public urged to be vigilant

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology forecasted that afternoon thundershowers are expected in several areas during next few days.

Accordingly, there is a high possibility for afternoon thundershowers particularly in Eastern, Uva, Central North-Central Provinces, and in Vavuniya and Mullaitivu Districts.

Therefore, Meteorology Department urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning activity as the possibility for afternoon thundershowers is high over the island.

Furthermore, showers or thundershowers above 75 millimetres will occur at several places in Eastern, Uva, North-Central, Northern, Central Provinces, and in Hambanthota District after 2.00 this evening (11).

Meanwhile, several spells of showers about 50 millimetres will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western Provinces, and Galle, and Matara Districts as well.
