President signs documents to extradite Mahendran

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena has signed the relevant documents to extradite former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran from Singapore over the bond scam case, Presidential Media Division (PMD) states.

Recently, the Attorney General (AG) had submitted a 22,000-page document to the Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministries in a bid to extradite the suspect.

Mahendran, is among ten individuals accused of causing massive losses to the government by illegally issuing treasury bonds of the central bank in 2015.

President Sirisena this week said that more documents have been prepared to bring the perpetrators of the bond scam who were in higher positions than the Central Bank governor, before the law.
